I didn't see anything on the news... What is happening in Nicaragua??
In April 2018 civil unrest broke out across the country. What initially began as peaceful protests evolved into countrywide confits. Several hundred people have been killed, including children. Hundreds more have disappeared and over 2000 have been injured.
While relative calmness has returned to Nicaragua in 2019, no resolution was reached and the impacts of the unrest are still growing. Tourism all but ceased in 2018 and has been very slow to return. All businesses catering to tourists including hotels, restaurants, and stores have been affected, many have had to close their doors or cut their staff.
In addition, current conditions and fiscal reforms are causing the prices of basic items to go up. This means that even those that are still working are struggling to support their families.
Our mission to provide fair wage jobs has never been more important in Nicaragua. Thank you to everyone that supports us, we are very grateful.
